Was WWE must-see TV? No. Was TNA the better show? Depends on your definition of "better". Personally, I don't think a show that uses two aging wrestlers (Hogan & Flair), the return of a headliner (Sting), the debut of a former headliner (RVD), and re-debut of top draw (Jeff Hardy) as "better" television. I call that gimmicks or tricks used to lure fans in, but ultimately have no pay-off.
watching TNA reminds me SO much of the latter years of WCW when every week was a "shock". They had no true angles because if it didn't generate ratings one week, they writers would simply re-write the show for next week with yet more twists and turns.
That sort of writing is good in the short-term, but not if you plan to keep regular watchers who look for a payoff.
Example: Did no one else tire of watching WCW, during it's final year, as the tag team titles change hands virtually every week with no discernable reason how contenders got title shots?
I fear TNA could be headed in that direction if they're NOT careful. They so deparately want to steal ratings away from WWE, yet at the same time "claim" it's not about the ratings, but about the quality. If that's true, then focus on QUALITY, give it to us weekly, and quit trying to "shock" us week-in and week-out.
One last thing, TNA has to stop spouting the praises of their "youth movement" yet continue to push talent whose prime years were over a decade ago. I'm just sayin'.
