The Unwritten Rules of Pro Wrestling

Every wrestler knows the rules, but none of them are allowed to say anything. Every play-by-play announcer knows these rules, but like the entertainers, they are not allowed to speak of these rules.

The professionals can’t discuss the rules, but we can. WrestlingAudio.com presents to you, the UNWRITTEN RULES OF PRO-WRESTLING!

1. The challenger must always win a non-title contest.

2. A victory in a match (on the show before a pay-per-view) signals a loss on the PPV. And vice-versa.

3. The “home-town hero” must always lose (to build sympathy/support).

4. If a wrestler does not receive a (full) intro on TV, that wrestler will not win his/her contest.

5. Once a storyline is complete, one should consider it to have never happened. Fans are expected to forget the feud/outcome.

6. Tall, larger-than-average sized wrestlers must receive a “push” upon debut. In most cases, this is an undefeated streak.

7. After every main-event, none of “the competitors will ever be the same.”

8. Every main-event is the “biggest main-event ever”.. until next week

9. Being fired never actually means one is fired.

10. If a new wrestler is debuting (or coming back from a long absence), that wrestler will win. In the off-case this wrestler does not, the wrestler can only lose by their decision (intentional DQ, count-out, etc.)

11. A face’s health must be put in jeopardy before a big PPV match.

12. Closed fist punches will never get a wrestled disqualified. Ever.

13. If a wrestler ever made Vince McMahon money, that wrestler’s child is assured a job later in life.

14. The competitors must always exchange blows at the top of the ladder, at the end of every ladder match.

15. 2 out of 3 Falls contests must always make it to the third fall.

16. A heel must hide behind the ropes at least once per match.

17. If two wrestlers tag for over two weeks with one-another, they have become best friends out of the ring.

18. Any main-event officiated by Earl Hebner will involve a ref-bump.

19. A heel must never want to wrestle their rival.. Until the face’s back is turned

20. Competitors must always compete outside of the cell, in a Hell in a Cell match.

21. All employed referees must knock-out easily. Refs that can spring back up (quickly) are not qualified for the position.

22. If the announcers mention that a certain wrestler will win or lose, the opposite will happen.

23. A ref will never, ever count to five on an illegal hold. They will count to four and then try to break it!

24. A hardcore, no DQ match will result in a spot in the crowd.

25. A referee will never count out in a main event, they will always follow the two outside.

26. A wrestler will never, ever retire.

27. In a ladder match one of the competitors will always walk under the ladder on the ramp during there ring entrance.

28. Every star must charge or “hulk up” before a big/hot tag or a "refuse to lose" finisher.
